Airbox

The airbox is a fiberglass molded part that holds a flexible K&N air filter (P/N E3450).  Small tabs are riveted to the inside to hold the filter in place.  An anodized top is screwed on to hold the airbox in place.

The airbox is fixed to the engine by a circular clamp help onto the flow controller.  A ramp needs to be built to direct the air from the intake to the airbox.  Thick rubber is attached to the airbox to bridge the gap between the ramp and the box.

The airbox ramp is made by attaching fiberglass foam to the lower cowl with bondo.  We used a threaded rod to scrape away the foam to match the shape of the airbox inlet to the cowl inlet.  We used our thinnest fiberglass to lay up a single layer.  After it cured, we cut away the edges, scraped away the remaining foam, and put thicker fiberglass around the outside.  Using this process, we were able to avoid constricting the airflow in the ramp.
